HELP! Slanted Door is Closed the Week following Xmas

kirk wallace | Nov 27, 2001 01:16 PM

NYC chowhounds making their annual pilgrimage to SF and one our principal shrines, Slanted Door, is closed the nights we'll be in town (12/26-12/30). (Fortunately, the other shrine, Chez Panisse, I think, will be open.) I am seeking any ideas or reactions for a replacement -- i've put down some names that occur to me, but most i know very little about. The replacement doesn't have to be Viet/asian/fusion but ideally it would have a good (or at least interesting, non-Chardonnay dominated) wine list and ideally would be something that is non-replicable in NYC or France.
(As point of reference, I thought, admitedly based only on one dinner, that Eos was ok, but nothing too special.)

So, if you SF hounds would indulge me, any and reactions would be really appreciated:

Chaya Bassrerie?
Palio d'Asti?
Three Seasons?
La Moone? (sounds fun)
Three Seasons?
Lalime in Berkeley?

I assume Postrio is still fine? (Haven't been in 3 or 4 years, but did like it --better than Hawthorne Lane, to our taste anyway.)

any other ideas i should be considering?

thanks much.
