My fave item from Takashimaya Dept Store's sprawling Food Village on Basement 2 - fried carrot cake - the version with sweet dark sauce (the same stall also offers the paler version, fried with lots of eggs).
The dark-sauced version here consisted of cubes of delicate-textured "carrot" (rather "daikon" or radish) cake, fried with pickled radish (what we call "chye poh" in Singapore) & eggs, then topped with finely-chopped scallions before serving. Simple, yet delicious comfort food for many of us here.
Of course, you can find better renditions at Newton Food Centre or the one by the old man at Tanglin Halt - but nothing, IMO, beats eating hot, fried carrot cake in an air-conditioned environment, compared to sweating like a hog in Singapore's steamy food centres.
