Why did I forget to bring my camera to brunch today? I would love to show images of the beautiful food we had this morning, but I guess I'll have to settle for words.
Four of us went for a 10am brunch to this new restaurant at Dundas St W / Roncesvalles, in the former location of B. There was only one other table being served while we there, though a party of two came in just as we were leaving. I suspect with a little time, more word-of-mouth advertisement, and warmer weather, this place will be full... and have a "real" sign in the window!
To drink, P had tasty organic, fair-trade coffee, C had a nice jasmine green tea, I enjoyed a well-made chai latte, and M had a somewhat too rich hot chocolate. Not a bad start. We then shared a few sides: two very soft, flaky scones with blueberry jam; two potato latkes that were crammed with so many other veggies that they almost looked and tasted like veggie burgers (and were not oily at all); a cup of plain yogurt with fruit; and hash browns with super tasty fried onion bits. All very good choices and all very fresh.
As mains, P had a poached egg on a bed of greens with smoked bacon; C ate scrambled tofu with a small green salad and grilled whole tomato; M chose one of the specials, two small waffles with scrambled eggs and sausage (an interesting and tasty combination) with a small green salad; and I enjoyed a goat cheese frittata with spinach and ricotta, with a small green salad and hash browns. The colours, textures, and flavours were great. The portion sizes were just perfect.
Apart from a few small details, we were all very satisfied with our food - and the reasonable prices! The decor is a work in progress, and the serving staff needs a little polish, but that should come with time. I hope to return for lunch one day, but if someone beats me to it, please post a review here!
Simply Nosh Bistro is open Tuesday-Sunday, 8:30-3:30.
