I was scheduled to meet my grandparents and uncle at SFO this evening for a several hour layover for dinner. Based on comments on this board, I thought Chef Ding in San Mateo would be a good choice, and told my cousins to meet us there.
On arrival, my cousins, who are Taiwanese, expressed deep reservations about dining at Chef Ding because it was 1) empty, and 2) Silver House, a few doors down, was packed and looked nicer to them. Being the only non-Chinese speaker, I acquiesced to their wishes.
The meal was fine I suppose, no discernible style (to me, not an expert), kind of that saucy gravy-ish style that many Cantonese restaurant people trying to do other regions' styles end up with. One exception was a quite tasty oxtails in red wine sauce in clay pot.
I guess I just wanted to mention that Chef Ding's was disturbingly deserted (one table I saw, as I was leaving the other place). I guess word's not really getting out. Also, does anybody have much experience with Silver House?
