Hi everyone - back from a long gig on the road and happy to be back cooking!! Hope everyone is well.
I bought my silpat a few years ago thinking it was going to be my personal cooking savior. I've used it twice maybe? I'm not much for delicate baking and once I discovered shiny metal cookie pans, I have no worries about burning my cookies. So tonight, I found my new favorite use for my silpat: Peeling garlic cloves!!!
I hate hate hate hate peeling garlic and I use it by the truck-load so I was excited to read an article not long ago about any rubber disk working for peeling garlic. Well, I don't have a garlic peeler, I don't have those rubber widgets that help you open jars, but I DO have a silpat that's rubber-like. Tonight while making tortilla soup I lined six garlic cloves along the short end of the silpat, rolled the sucker up and started pressing gently with my hands. When I unrolled Wah-Lah!! Naked garlic! Took about 30 seconds.
I'm so happy I might dance a jig.
