A couple weeks ago I strolled over to CAÑA Cuban Parlor's new outdoor bar at Lake Merritt to continue the tour of black-owned establishments. The promoted drink specialties are frozen cocktails:
For me, I was more interested in the rosy pink watermelon-lemonade dispenser on the counter. The bartender suggested spiking it with Tito's vodka --- sold!
Not bad, though I wished I'd asked for a splash of Flor de Caña instead, duh. And it still feels weird to me to continue my walk on public streets with a cocktail in hand.
To comply with state public health orders, customers must purchase food in order to be served alcohol. Caña has bags of chips for a buck, as well as offering most of its regular menu. I asked for a guava and cheese pastelito, but already sold out. I did order maduros, $5, to take home with me, which were satisfactory.
