Yesterday I went to a party near Carol Gardens and was reminded of the wonderful Olive Bread we used to get from Caputo's on Court Street. Here in Astoria we have more Italian bakeries than we know what to do with, but all the bread is either pure white, or semolina. It's amazing to me how many different varieties of white bread one bakery can make. Now I know I'm not going to find any wonderful German farmer's loaves here, but even (or especially, depending on my mood) a chewy olive bread would be a wonderful change of pace. I've seen this thread come up before, but thusfar no-one's seemed to come up with adequate local alternatives. Is there ANY unusual/not-totally-white fresh bread here that I'm missing??
