We are regulars at both China Village and Happy Golden Bowl and have enjoyed both for years. Neighboring diners at China Village who are big fans recently said they were wowed by Sichuan Fortune in Pleasant Hill. I've read most of the threads I could find and am not sure I'm compelled to drive over from Oakland/Berkeley when CV and HGB/AS are relatively close.
Is it worth the extra time and is it different enough to maybe get some new flavors/preparations, etc.?
If you had these two on your list (and we are very happy with both) and wanted to add a place, where else would you be trying if you wanted to add one more?
-We'll drive an hour plus for great food but prefer it not be something we can get closer.
-Willing to pay for expertise, family/cultural depth of knowledge/passion
-Less concerned about ambiance and service unless it's hard to get the food.
-Stick to the Sichuan parts of the menu almost exclusively at CV/HGB.
