Shrinking cake batter

orlybabe | Jan 22, 201907:26 PM     15

Had a strange baking semi-disaster yesterday! I was making Victoria Sponge, which is sponge cake with strawberries and cream in the middle. The recipe was for 2 8 inch tins, and I was using 9 inch tins so I multiplied the recipe by 25%. I’ve always done this and it has always worked. However, this time, the amount of final cake batter I had looked so much less than in the video for this recipe, and it only filled one 9 inch tin like 1/3 full! It seemed like although I measured all the ingredients exactly and followed the recipe to a T, the cake batter ended up being so much less. I’m totally stumped why this happened. Help!
