I am seeking out some Chinese food that will please my parents. While they love the XLB and other dishes at Din Tai Fung, every time we go, my dad always asks if they have Shrimp with Black Bean Sauce, and the answer is obviously no.
My folks are both from New York. I believe their ideal Chinese restaurant is be Shun Li Palace in Midtown New York. Long-gone LA spots they enjoyed included Mandarin in Beverly Hills and Monkee in Chinatown.
Is there a super great Cantonese place in the SGV where I could take them for the Shrimp/Lobster in Black Bean Sauce of their lives? Or is this dish out of fashion enough that it will be what it will be at a number of places? I'm very curious to know if there is a version that the chowhounds like.
