shrimp cups at vung tau 2 (milpitas) - delicious

echo | Dec 19, 200605:12 PM

finally got to try these the other day, and they were excellent. i've only had these once or twice elsewhere, but vung tau's were definitive, really in another class. the key is that the batter was fried to a crisp crust on the outside while tender, moist, and custard-like on the inside. they were served scalding hot, forcing me to wait a bit, even after wrapping them in cool herbs and lettuce and dunking them in the fish sauce sauce. a bit pricier than the competition (maybe $7?), but more than worth it.

the composition of these reminded me a bit of the sweet cups served at the san bruno thai temple.
