Shout Out for Berezka Russian Market: New Food Adventures with a Helpful Owner/Guide

I want to give a shout out to the Berezka Russian food market on Comm Ave+ Harvard.
I returned there today (my second visit after many years absence) and was again helped by Elena who is just as sweet as can be. Young, brown hair; old fashioned torso apron(must be a name for those) ;smiles a lot and speaks excellent English. Spurred on by a CH thread about salmon caviar, I shopped there a few weeks ago and found out that Elena's taste was very much like mine, and her recs were well received in our house. Their bulk caviar ($25 per 1/2 lb) is top notch- big eggs, shiny, full, very 'natural' level of salt/ not too salty. They also make many Russian entree and side dishes that I have been trying. So far, I really like the cherry crepes and the cheese crepes, and the chicken and potato cutlets.

Today I bought some assorted chicken dishes and some ground 'schwarma'-like sausages of lamb with chicken, and an eggplant salad. Will report back on those new items. Between their array of smoked fishes and 'deli meats' I think they have more of those items than I have ever seen (in Boston) in one store. Elena was really great at pointing me to her personal faves. Having had many recent experiences with some less than affable Watertown ethnic market owners, Elena made me really appreciate how a friendly helpful shop keeper can make all the difference when one explores a new cuisine....
