Shorts! - And Reservation Timing Help

crr243 | Jun 24, 201508:38 AM

Hey all!

My fiancee and I will be in NYC from July 21 to July 25th, 2015 for our honeymoon. We're currently booked at The Marlton in the Village.

On Tuesday (July 21), we get in to Newark (from Canada) at 11 AM. We're planning on doing TOTR at sunset that evening. In between, we''re likely just going to stroll 5th Ave and maybe relax a bit in Bryant Park or Washington Square Park. We have no meal plans yet.

For Wednesday evening (July 22), we're planning on getting tickets to Phantom of the Opera at 7PM. We have no meal plans yet.

We have tickets booked for Finding Neverland at 7:30PM on Thursday night (July 23) and currently have a reservation at Becco at 5:30 that night. After some reading I'm not convinced this is the best choice of restaurant, so that might change.

On Friday night (July 24), we plan to visit Gramercy Tavern. I'll be looking for a reservation as soon as they're available this Friday.

Given that we live in a very temperate Canadian city, we'll be wearing shorts daily. As a result, we'll need to truck it back to our hotel and change before shows. This will definitely make things tight for the Wednesday evening show if we have a pre-show meal.

We both want to visit a good Italian place. My fiancee has her heart a bit set on a Batali restaurant and, conveniently, Otto, Lupa, and Babbo are close to our hotel! I have a few thoughts on how to accomplish this, but welcome opinions from others.

1. Visit Lupa or Otto after checking into the hotel on Tuesday, July 21st. We can't be sure if our flight will be on time, how long US Customs will take, how long transit will take, etc, so we can't really reserve, and Babbo isn't open in the afternoon. I'm thinking we might make it by 3 at the latest. Will we be accepted at Lupa in shorts, to avoid having to return to the hotel to change?

2. Visit Babbo, Lupa, or Otto after TOTR on July 21. Sunset is at 8:20, so we'd probably leave the Rockefeller by about 9. I'd say we could get to Babbo by 10:00, but a 10:30 reservation would let us be a bit more casual.

3. Visit Babbo, Lupa, or Otto after Phantom on July 22. Phantom ends at about 9:30. A 10:30 res should be doable.

4. Visit Lupa or Otto for a pre-show meal on July 23. We'll already be down at the hotel to change prior to Finding Neverland, so we will be nearby. Reservations at 4:30. Leave between 6 and 6:30 for the show at 7:30.

Any thoughts, advice, or feedback? I'm leaning towards a post-Phantom meal at Babbo, as we wouldn't need to change and wouldn't be rushed pre-show, but would like some advice.
