Swans Oyster Bar for late 3:30 lunch consisted of prawn cocktail ($7)(much too much cocktail sauce. Suggest asking for sauce on side.) and ½ crab($15) (good but not as sweet as it could have been) with a glass of sauvignon blanc. There is a sense that the place is so busy they are not as particular as they should be. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Citizen Cake for dessert. A thin layer of devils food cake topped with tall layer of chocolate ganache all covered with a smooth dark chocolate ($7) and an espresso. The feel of the place and the beauty of the desserts always seem to exceed the flavor of the food, yet back again.
Globe for midnight diner. The Globe is inconsistent, but when its good it is very good. A few years ago the kitchen produced San Dabs the texture and taste of which will stay with me for the rest of my life as a bench mark for all food.
This night the chefs ability to prepare a grilled wild salmon on boccacino pasta, aglive olio with salsa verde($22) which was a perfect flavor mix and balance of lemon, pepper, salt and rare salmon such that each flavor was recognizable yet in perfect harmony with the others and the giving texture of the homemade boccacino against the crispy almost charred salmon is one reason I continue to return.
