Short Trip Report

Had a great weekend in Chicago/Milwaukee as well as some great eating.

We arrived late from Dallas on Friday night, so we ended up dining at Sable - which was great. It was right around the corner from our hotel, and we ended up with a booth right by the kitchen. I know this isn't prime seating for everyone, but I love a good kitchen view.

The highlights were the beet salad, seared scallops with chutney, grapefruit & avocado salad. Our waiter had a couple of missteps - brought us an old fashioned instead of a sauterne and he also took a little while to tell us our original bottle of champagne wasn't available. No big deal, he was apologetic and offered us dessert. We ended up with the chocolate souffle cake, and it was impeccable. Love, love, loved it. Overall, a great experience for late night dinner and drinks.

We're big brunch eaters, and it seems like there weren't a lot of brunch options for Saturday. Someone recommended Heaven on Seven for Saturday brunch, and while yes, they do have brunch, I certainly wouldn't recommend it. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either. Just blah.

Skip to Monday evening when we return from a side trip to visit relatives in Milwaukee. Monday was tough as a lot of restaurants were closed on Monday, and we were too tired of driving to even think about driving or cabbing anywhere for dinner.

So we started with oysters at the Oyster Bar at Shaw's Crab House - such a fun little pre-dinner event. Overall good service and food - but we just stuck to oysters (and champagne!), so I can't speak to the rest of the menu.

After oysters we walked over to David Burke's Primehouse for a late meal. We both enjoyed our 55 day old dry aged ribeyes, but I thought the sides were just okay. I did however, LOVE, the caesar salad with extra anchovies. Overall, a solid meal.

Thanks again for letting me peruse your Chicago board, and I can't wait to return for more eating.
