Short Dining Report - Oct. 17-21, 2012

We returned to LV once again for our usual annual law seminar . . . some new places; some tried-and-true.

As the trip coincided with our 10th anniversary, my wife and I went to é on Wednesday night. One party didn't show, so there were only six of us for the second seating . . . 24 courses, only one true "miss" which was the "Cava Sangria" -- too tart and acidic to really work well, IMHO. Other courses went from very, very good to incredible. (I emailed a copy o the menu to a friend of ours in Spain; her comment: "Ferand's greatest hits.") ;^)

FWIW, we ignored the wine pairing, and opted for one bottle of white, and a half-bottle of red, followed by a two different glasses of dessert wines . . .

Thursday was our annual pilgrimage to Lotus of Siam. Eight of us. Awesome, as always, and the wines were equally as stunning!

Friday was another group of eight, but back to the Cosmopolitan and Jaleo! Clearly different from é, but very good and enjoyed by all. Excellent and affordable wines, red and white.

Saturday, we were off to a show at the MGM Grand, and so opted for a light bite at Nob Hill Tavern. The only "miss" here was with the (deconstructed) Caesar Salad which, while the salad itself was very good, the white anchovy fillet was slightly rubbery and rather flat tasting (too old?). As with all MIchael Mina restaurants, the wine list is extensive and overpriced, but perseverance can yields an affordable gem or two.
