Shanghai Lilly

Found this place while walking around chinatown Spadina (on the eastside, just south of College).

All I saw was the words "pad thai" and in I went.

For lunch, they have $10 bento boxes. But it's not Japanese food. The one I tried had chicken spring rolls, pad thai, stir-fried vegetables, fresh fruit (watermelon, grapes), and a chicken lollipop (nothing but grilled chicken on a stick). Also comes with a coffee or tea. Chose the Jasmine tea.

The food was OK. Nothing spectacular. As mentioned in previous posts, the decor outshines the food. You have chopsticks wrapped in bamboo rollers. A plate of napkins with a stone serving as a paper-weight. Benches with pillows. A Mao statue. And some new-age Asian dance continually playing in the background.

I will return to give this place another chance. It is especially refreshing not to see the plastic white table "cloths" in a Chinatown restaurant.
