Shamshiri, into its own

Went to the 'new Shamshiri' when they just opened and made a return visit tonight. What a difference! I always loved that space that was concocted when the restaurant was Sherkarchi - its well spaced, has interesting floors and lighting and a great flow. However it used to be so staid; not now - its lively, upbeat a good crowd and obviously a lot of regulars. Now for the food - on a drizzly cold night a big plate of lamb was in order - just outstanding kabob taken off the skewer served with onions, peppers, tomato and a divine Persian salad (in place of rice) which came with a tingling lemon/lime/mint dressing. I was licking the little jug it came in. My partner, fresh from a day of jury duty had the Tuesday special, the lamb shank served with eggplant in a fresh and I mean FRESH tomato sauce. It was tasty to the nines. Homemade dough (sp) was the drink of choice and that was a lot of food for $25 total plus tip. We'll be back soon.
