Every Saturday that I've actually woken up early enough to go to the Ferry Farmers Market during these summer months, I make my way over to Hamada Farms. Every Saturday I've asked if they have strawberry figs yet. THe wonderful lady at Hamada Farms introduced them to me last year and that was it. I had fallen in love with this fig and nothing could shake it. These figs are green skinned with literally strawberry red flesh. And oh so sweet! However, Hamada Farms doesn't have many of these trees and the season for them is something like 2 weeks, at best. So every week I ask. Nothing yet...yet. This morning though revealed a new treasure. Again, the generous lady introduced me to violete de Bordeaux, a purple skinned luscious fig. What I especially liked about this fig was that it was all sweetness. Sometimes I don't care for what I perceive as bitterness from the skins. This fig, its flesh and its skin were all bites of sweetness. Has anyone heard of this fig type before or now where I can find out more about it?
