Settimio al Pelligrino and more from Rome

In Rome now! We went to Settimio tonight at 8:30, the earliest possible time. We were walking by at around 8:00 and stopped in to make a reservation. They were almost but not totally full by 9.

We absolutely loved our meal! Started with the gnocchi (it's Thursday, after all) with a perfect amount of rich pomodoro sauce. I loved how you could really taste the potatoes in the gnocchi; they were not "light as a feather" but substantial without being heavy. We followed with stuffed roast veal, stuffed with hard boiled egg and a little prosciutto. Two small slices were perfection -- delicious and tender. The cauliflower was soft, salty and yummy. We had the Mont Blanc for dessert. I had never tried it before--although super sweet it made the perfect finish to our meal.

I loved this place for its authentic trattoria style, friendly service and fabulous food!

Thanks to all who recommended it.

We ate a few nights ago at a new place called Osteria al Pistoia on via rinacimento and enjoyed it very much. Chalk board menu. wines by the glass. chatty, english speaking staff. They said they'd only been open a few weeks. While it had nothing of the heart and soul of Settimio, this place is worth a try.

We alslo had Porchetta panini from the truck in Campo dei Fiori which were fantastic. For my money, there is no better lunch!

I will continue to report...
