Hi there! We're coming up to NS from Boston in summer 2017 and, boy, do we like to eat! I'm leaving a decent amount of time for people to respond. I'm so excited for our visit -- I can't wait!
I'm a chef and my husband is a very good eater. We'll have a cooler and will definitely hit a farmer's market or 2 -- good ones? Are there farmer's markets in the smaller towns? are they always on Saturday or Sunday? -- and cook for ourselves on occasion.
We're interested in traditional local foods and eating local ingredients. We're willing to spend money on our food, but that doesn't mean we're looking for fancy places. We love homey places you can go to everyday. We want homemade food. And we're looking for ALL kinds of ideas ... lobster rolls, seafood, local specialties, Acadian food, modern food ... holes in the wall, wine bars or white tablecloth places are all welcome suggestions.
More specifically: restaurant recommendations for Halifax proper and for "worth a side trip" kind of places. And bars in Halifax too. We'll be starting in Yarmouth and plan on going to Fleur de Sel in Lunenberg for lunch. Then one dinner in Halifax, then up around Cape Breton for a 3 nights. How's the food at Cabot Shores' GoBistro? (we're staying there) Then we'll head back down to Halifax, for a couple days via Burntcoat Head Park. Finally, a return to Yarmouth via Annapolis-Royal. Would love to have a good last dinner somewhere on the way to or in Yarmouth.
Also, where can we see some rock bands in Halifax?
Thanks so much for your help! I promise that I'll write back with what we had, where it was and how it was. It drives me crazy how Chowhound (how I love thee!) gives me reviews from 8 years ago as if things haven't changed!
