Seeking Cantonese restaurant in NYC for banquet for 100

abycinnyc | May 11, 201512:34 PM

Hi Chowhounds,

Hoping for your help here. I'm looking for a Cantonese-style Chinese restaurant in Brooklyn, Manhattan or Queens for a post-wedding dinner banquet. Fiance and I are having a destination wedding, and we're following up with a Chinese banquet mostly for family. So while the occasion is for a wedding, we won't have a DJ/MC, no dance floor or wedding games. We will have a tea ceremony and family photos, so we do need to have the red wall backdrop for the photos. Otherwise, it'll really just be a dinner for the most part, so of course we'd like to make sure the food is great too.

We're planning for about 100 guests, and looking at mostly small to mid-sized restaurants, or larger restaurants that may have a smaller/private section that could accommodate a party of our size.

To give a sense of what we're looking for, two restaurants we're considering are:
-Oriental Garden at 14 Elizabeth Street in Manhattan. The size is great, but problem is that they're pretty pricey (as far as Chinese banquet pricing goes). If we could afford to, we would love to have it here.

-East Ocean Palace in Forest Hills. I like that it's a bit away from the craziness that is Flushing. We would only take up a third to half of the restaurant so while it'll be a little awkward -- it's not as bad as taking up a tiny corner in a bustling huge banquet hall.

If anyone has any recommendations we could consider, it would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Oriental Garden,
New East Ocean Palace
