Spent a couple of happy hours Saturday am cruising the aisles of this comprehensive supermarket at 260 Lafayette in the Ironbound District. Among other things, they carry a large selection of fish, including fresh sardines and many kinds of dried or salted cod, cortes and their own sausages, including blood sausages, with and without rice, vac packed or loose; wide range of meats, including freshly salted tails, feet, etc loose, not packaged, fresh breads from several of the Newark bakeries, including Texeiras, lots of portuguese olive oils at excellent prices, thinly sliced collards for soup, lots of kinds of piri piri sauce, including huge jugs, as well as "guinando sauce" - is this guinea peppers?; portuguese and other pepper pastes, including ecuadorean (or peruvian) yellow pepper paste; brazilian palm oil, a limited selection of cheeses at good prices, many brazilian and south american specialty items, packaged or frozen (ex. frozen lulo paste), guarana and other soft drinks. Also lots of portuguese cookware, metal and ceramic. No wines. Also a lot of items I have not seen anwhere else in the NY region including:
packets of junket
leaf gelatin, several colors
brazilian cashew nut beverage concentrate (pale yellow)
candy cigarettes

They have a parking lot, but it fills up rapidly; onstreet parking is also available.
