SD-Mama's Lebanese

Dumpling | Feb 4, 200211:08 AM

Went there again this weekend. I gave the incorrect address before. It's in the 4000 block of Alabama St., just south of El Cajon Blvd. It's right next to the Live Wire. It's only open until 7 on weekdays and 4 on weekend days. The only seating is on the patio. And it's delicious. The cone-shaped oven that they bake the bread on is called a "sajj." I had a beef shwarma (they had run out of chicken), it comes wrapped in a fresh-baked bread with tahini and pickles. The baklava was perfect, too, crispy, not too sweet. Lots of the sandwiches come with mint in them.
I also got a spinach pie. It's spinach wrapped in dough and also baked on the sajj. It's a little soggy, and on the lemony side, but if you eat it right away, it's perfect.
The food isn't fancy, but good quality and honest.
Every time I eat here, it makes me happy.
