So I'm often in Schenectady mid-day and need lunch. Here's what I've found:
Ambition on Jay Street is decent lunch place. Homemade food that's pretty darn good. Good soup; fine sandwiches. Their bread pudding was very pleasing -- though more like french toast than pudding since it was kinda dry. But I was a happy eater.
Gershon's deli never disappoints when you need some corned beef, pastrami or chopped liver. And I've been there on eggplant parm special day and it was great.
But why I posted is this: Villa Italia. Moved to Broadway. Yes, their pastries are very good. Had several. But what keeps drawing me in is the roasted (marinated?) eggplant sandwich on ciappino bread wrapped for lunch. Yum. I've been bummed when I've been there too early for sandwich chef. yes, apparently they're fresh every day. There are other sandwiches. But it's the eggplant I crave. Sandwich, sparkling water and chips for 7 bucks. No complaints (except that sandwich chef doesn't come in in the a.m!)
