Scala's Bistro Service Shocker

I have been to Scala's Bistro several times and have aways enjoyed the food, service and ambience. We had a party of 6 Saturday night celebrating a special occasion. We could only get a 6:00 reservation and were not seated until last two in the party arrived about 6:15. We had a wonderful meal, but did notice that it took quite awhile to get the food, but we were enjoying ourselves anyway. After we finished with the main course a man in a suit appeared with our check - not our waitress. We were pretty stunned as one in our party had ordered a prix fixe meal that came with dessert. We had not been offered dessert menus or asked if we wanted dessert even. We told him that and he said "Oh, you want dessert?" I said "Do you want us to leave?" He said "Well, there are people waiting for the table." I was shocked. He took the check away and the waitress came and gave us dessert menus, neither one apologized. We spent almost $300.00, so I thought we should have been treated better than that. I have read about this happening to others, but it has never happened to me! We asked the hostess on the way out and found out that the man was the general manager.
I cannot imagine going back there ever again!
