Okay, stop snickering about the abbrevriation.
We had dinner at SBC this evening. Other than a slow server and a glitch with the credit card machine not working for a while, everything was great. Bruce had the seafood gumbo, which was flavorful with a nice hot bite. I had the ever-wonderful roasted pepper soup, which is actually two soups, one with a bit of coconut milk, in the same bowl in a pretty orange and red ying-yang pattern.
Bruce had the NY Strip with a coffee crust. The coffee crust was understated and the strip itself came perfectly medium rare, as requested. I went for the roasted beet salad on spinach. The beets were very moist and the salad was perhaps a touch too vinegary. I also had the soft-shell with wasabi aioli. This was an appetizer and the crab was served in three pieces over a "slaw" of red cabbage, snow peas, and carrot. The slaw didn't work that well for me, but that is because red cabbage and snow peas don't do much for me. Bruce enjoyed the tastes he had.
I saw a recent comment on this board voicing concerns about changes to the menu, with more Asian influence. I did see some of that, but there were also two lamb dishes (rack and shanks) and plenty of other mainstream offerings.
Out of curiousity, I asked about their Valentines day bookings. They have a few openings if anyone is still looking. We'll be spending Monday evening at home with a nice garlic-crusted rack of lamb and far away from the restaurant insanity.
