Went to Santarpio's for lunch the other day and a colleague recommended the barbecue. I thought he was kidding, but there it was on the menu, so I had to try it. It's not barbecue in any traditional sense, but rather chunks of grilled meat on skewers with a side of cherry peppers and a hunk of bread. I got the lamb and sausage combo and was rolling my eyes and making happy sounds within seconds of it reaching the table.
Juicy chunks of meat, charred slightly for that perfect sweet/savory/crusty thing going on the outside, moist and tender on the inside and oh-so-yummy. The lamb, in particular was fabulous -- really "lamby" just like I like it. Couldn't tell if it was marinated, but it was some of the best meat-over-fire I've had in a long time. The cherry peppers are a great tangy/hot contrast to the richness of the meat and the bread is just right for mopping up the drips. Kind of a caveman lunch, but so, so, so, great!!
