Had breakfast at Sandy's diner at 24th and Locust. I didn't see any duck liver or scuba-equipped Alba truffle-sniffing pigs on Vespas, but the eggs and sausage were great. The space was well-conceived and I really appreciated the way the Equal and Sweet n' Low packets were arranged like Osaka oragami in porcelain ramekins.
I was disappointed because I brought one of my favorite bottles of Spatsburgunder with me and they aren't BYO so I had a cup of coffee. I don't know, maybe next time I'll sneak some Austrian Gruner or a nice Tokay in and spike up my joe. I think the residual sugar of the wine will fold into the meal nicely.
Give it a shot, guys. It's a bit off the radar but it's a nice follow-up to a weekend night of serious chowhounding at one of Center City's hot spots. Kind of like an egg-soaked piece of pain perdu in the morning after a night of shoveling-in some sturgeon roe (or ginger paddlefish if you're feeling really avant garde) and tobbiko-studded opah loin.
