This past weekend I continued my pizza tour. First stop, to the House of Pizza which was disapointingly closed for vacation. So next stop was Sam's on court street. I remember vaguely hearing about this place, and couldn't quite remember if what i had hear was positive or negative.
Well first let me say, the environment is CLASSIC, even approaching creepy classic. But you know some great stories have come out of this place.
The pizza was, not great, but what I expected every pizza parlor to taste like before I moved to NYC. Unfortuanately, most suck. All pizzas should at least be this good. A nice thin, but not overly thin crust. Fine cheese, not fresh mozz. but much better than the melted plastic and paste that frequents most parlors. At least the cheese had a milky taste to it. My greatest problem with the pizza was the sause. Definitely tin can sauce flavor. Could at least used a bit of basil to disguise this.
Anyway, Sam's is not one of my favorites, but a worthwhile stop on a pizza tour.
