Not to be confused with Sam's Deli Diner, a couple of blocks away and 30 years pre-existing it. I stopped in for a quick lunch this week and rather than ordering the expected burger, I noticed they had a Cuban sandwich. Bonus. Not so much. It was a pulled pork sandwich with a slice of ham on an inside out hamburger bun that was a strange orange hue. The pork was flavor free. One bite had a pickle in it, another a whiff of cheese. Just one. Someone needs to Google Cuban sandwich. Or just rent the movie Chef. What a disappointment. With skinny frozen fries and ice tea, the total was $16.73. Oh, and they make tipping convenient too, by flipping the register screen over to your side as you counter order so that you can select none, 15% or 20% while they wait. They do walk the food out to your table though, using for navigation your number on a stick a la Pronto Cucinino. And they will bus your table too and dispose of all the food you left behind.
I will say, the only other time I've been here was when a bad day drove me to the word "pie" and I got a wedge of chocolate meringue to go. That pie was delicious.
So WHEN is the Cuban restaurant on Memorial @ Dairy Ashford opening? I lose hope.
