yet another enjoyable evening at SAKAGURA. we had two apps. the first was chikuzen ni, which is a small bowl of roasted root vegetables. it's two bites of several vegetables such as purple potatos, green beans, etc. it's my fav, but vegetarians should beware because unannounced you also get two chicken wings in the bowl. the second app was a warm codfish dish topped i think with cheese. tasty, but oddly unexpected. no natto this time.
for a main i had a special of warm fluke filet over soba. it too was wonderful. my spouse had maguro sashimi. fresh and fine.
to drink i wanted an unpasteurized style nama sake and it just happened to be the special ($27/500ml/btl). it's much more flavorful than the pasteurized majority. some may not care for that, but i think the nama sake style is an interesting tangent to explore if you are a sake fan.
service was excellent as always although there was a long wait between apps and mains.
good news at SAKAGURA is that they have recently hired a dessert/pastry chef! and besides desserts, the entire menu is expanded. we were too full (and full of sake) to try anything. funny thing, we got a postcard from SAKAGURA announcing this in the mail today and offering a free 'dessert sampler tray' for dinner thru 12/31 w/ the postcard. so i urge you all to get on their mailing list.
