Sagres, Fall River, MA, great lunch spot!

Had a wonderful lunch with my husband and dad at Sagres, a Portuguese restaurant in Fall River. I had been searching for a spot (see link below) and chose Sagres based on its number one ranking on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed. You will not go hungry here. Meals are very complete and include salad, and in some instances both french fries and rice.

Service was warm and inviting. Dad has limited mobility and uses a walker, and our server Ryan graciously showed us to a table on the first level (there is a larger main dining room three stairs up).

Food isn't rushed, it is cooked to order, which we really appreciated because it gave us time to talk, as well as a good quality, freshly prepared lunch.

Our meals: Although the two soups on the menu were beckoning me - Kale with chourico and a Portuguese vegetable and bean soup... I had to refrain because it was more food than I could handle - but I have a date with you next time, Kale Soup. Our meals started with a basket of fresh Portuguese rolls and butter.

I had the prime rib, cooked perfectly rare as requested with a citrusy peppery jus that was refreshing and delicious. Sides included salad, grilled tomato and onion, and round-cut French fries which were like fluffy potato chips. Though I'm going light on carbs, I had to have a bite of one of those fries... delicious!

Dad had the Galinha No Espeto, a grilled chicken kebab, with the same sides I had plus the addition of rice! The portion, like the prime rib, was hefty.

My husband had the Frango Assado, a seasoned Cornish hen grilled on an open flame, which came with both fries and rice. Although all our food was good, in my opinion, this was the best. A succulent and meaty Cornish hen cooked perfectly with a nice barbecue flavor, For $12, this meal was a huge bargain.

Dad took home the leftovers and will be eating well for a week.

My husband finished his meal with flan, and I had a cappuccino (but without the whipped cream that usually comes with it). The cappuccino was made with a first rate espresso, and was served in a tall clear glass....interesting.

Overall we had a very nice meal here, and I would not hesitate to come back the next time we are in Fall River. An added plus - across the street from Sagres is a bakery (Chaves I think?). I bought a huge round loaf of sweet bread to bring to my brother's house, for $2.10. Can't beat that.
