Is there a flavour substitute for saffron? I don't need it for the colour aspect. I plan to make a Maharajah style curry powder and saffron is usually included. Can't risk using saffron because it is often fake and coloured, sometimes with annatto which I am allergic to. I can't imagine there is anything with a similar flavour profile but thought I'd check in with the great people of chowhound just in case.
