Saeng's Orient--Clovis, NM

I previously posted about some very good New Mexican food I found in Clovis at Guadalajara Cafe, and I recently discovered another great place in the area called Saeng's Orient. Saeng, the owner and chef, specializes in Thai food, although there is also a Chinese menu. The Thai food, though, is definitely worth a try. The ginger stir fry (phad king) I ordered was a delicious blend of Thai flavors and was not too sweet. I was going to order it "hot," but the waitress warned me that they use the "Thai spicy" heat scale, so ordering it medium turned out just right for me.

Saeng's is a small family run place several miles west of Clovis just outside the Cannon Air Force Base gate. It is located on Ranchvale Road just north of US 60, across the street from what looks like a housing area for the AFB. Cannon is on the BRAC list to be closed, and if this happens the restaurant will lose a big part of its customer base and its future would be uncertain. At least for now, though, you can get some surprisingly good Thai food in eastern New Mexico.
