Coming to Sacramento (actually, Placerville) this weekend. Will be hanging out with my two little brothers, 12 and 9. Not sure what we're going to be doing yet, but I always like to take them to Chowhoundish types of places and introduce them to new things.
I guess I'll just ask: what's cooler-than-average in Sacramento and on up 50 to Placerville?
I'm a big-time taqueria hound who's spent time in Mexico and hit many of the best in both the Mission district of SF and the Fruitvale area of Oakland, along with every decent place (and a lot of lesser places) in Portland. I'm always especially interested in antojitos that you don't always see in taquerias like huaraches, masa quesadillas with fillings like huitlacoche and squash blossoms, tlacoyas, masa gorditas, and the like. And interesting fillings like tinga, nopales with meats, etc.
But anything you think I should try with only a couple days to try them would be well appreciated. Also, I'm not familiar with Sacramento, so if there are places I should be weary of at night, especially with kids, tell me.
