Sabrett or Best?

John Fox | Apr 26, 2003 05:11 PM

Just wondering what everyone's preference was for hot dogs to cook at home. These two brands are the best selling all beef dogs in Jersey. Best's is the top seller, then Sabrett (made in N.Y.) then Nathan's (made in Chicago). I like both brands; I think Sabrett has a spicier/garlickier flavor while Best is subtle but just as flavorful. Easier on the salt and garlic. Best's fries up better because they contain soy protein which aids in frying. This is why the Italian Hot Dog places (which deep fry everything) choose to use Best. Sabrett taste really good on the griddle. These dogs are used at Boulevard Drinks in Jersey City and Papaya King, Gray's, and Katz's in Manhatten. Syd's in Union charbroils a large (5 to a lb) Best dog which I think is the best all beef dog in Jersey. These two dogs are the best all beef dogs you can get. Grote & Weigle from Conn. are good also. Usinger's, which are the spiciest dogs I've had are available through mail order, but last summer were sold in Foodtown. I'm hoping they will be available again this summer.
