I'm having a dinner party in a couple weeks with a Russian theme. I'm cooking almost exclusively out of Please to the Table, a very good cookbook with foods from Russia and the former Soviet Republic areas. I'm not sure what to serve to drink, besides vodka, which I fear only a few of the hardcore drinkers will like. (I will offer it, though.) I'm planning a buffet - blini with caviar, sour cherry dumplings, pickled mushrooms, kasha with mushrooms and sour cream, roast goose stuffed with sauerkraut and cabbage, pork and prune stew, meatballs in pomegranate sauce, rum baba, walnut strudel. Clearly, strong flavors, heavy food. Can anyone suggest a wine, beer, something else? Thanks so much.
