On a trip back from a weekend party, I made a stop that I've been meaning to make for many years--Roy's Allsteak Hamburger in Auburn.
It is a Maine-standard snack shack on steroids. Order at the windows, sit on the picnic tables. Claims of fresh ground sirloin abound.
The menu was as basic as it gets. Hamburger, Cheeseburger, Double Cheeseburger, Hot Dog, Fries, etc. After a brief chat with the gal at the order window, I was promised that my order of a double cheeseburger and fries would indeed be enough to appreciate the finer points of Roy's.
.and boy was she right. Once in a while your definition of 'burger' gets redefined. This one was just a simple griddle-browned affair with cheese on a plain bun. Not anything special to look at, but it tasted like heaven. It was so melty-cheesy-meaty good. The all-steak claim was proven.
Fries were hand-crinkle-cut and fried very well. Light yet substantial enough. Excellent with a splash of the provided vinegar.
Definitely worth a stop for the curious. I can still taste the meat.
