HIM Royal, veggie Caribbean in the Bronx

I think I've tried every vegan Caribbean joint in Brooklyn and Queens, so I headed up to the Bronx to try HIM Royal. It's at 2130 White Plains Road (at Lydig Avenue), and the #2 train Pelham Pkwy stop is about a block away. If you're into this kind of food, it's definitely worth the trip. I'd say that the food is up there with Veggie Castle, I'Qulah, Caribbean Delicacy, etc., as one of the really good ones. Like elsewhere, just order a combo plate and try a little of everything. You won't find any "curried soy chunks" here. The food is Jamaican-style (think Ras Diggi off Nostrand Avenue for a comparison) and the veggie chicken is the highlight. The rest of the flavors tend to get all mixed together on your plate, but that's not a bad thing. Didn't try the patties, but I think they serve them. Vegan peach cake was decent, but you can skip it. Downside of course is that it's a REALLY long trip. Personally, if I was going to head up that way, I'd just get off at 125th Street and eat at Uptown Juice Bar in Harlem, but it's still worth heading out to the Bronx for a change of pace.
