Rose wines everywhere!

No one in US used to order or buy it. If a guy ordered it at a restaurant, friends made a fun of you for ordering a 'pink' drink. You weren't taken seriously if you ordered or bought a bottle of rose wine.
but now, it's everywhere! I went to a relatively fancy restaurant a few days ago and seriously, on every single table, there were glasses of and bottles of rose wines. It's like everyone knew they were going to order rose. I see them on NYTimes wine review section, I see them at the entrance of my local Costco wine shop. What happened all of sudden?
I used to enjoy crisp and refreshing rose wine in summer times so it's nothing new to me but wow, what happened in US? It's another trendy thing to do I suppose.
