I returned again on Thursday for lunch to check out any changes from the last time I visited three weeks ago. Cesar is constantly adding to the menu and offering more specials every day.
The specials that day included Pork Ribs, Deviled Prawns (you are asked what spice level you want) and a superb Zucchini Squash Tamale with fresh Crab.
The best addition for me is that Maria from the original Roosevelt’s is back in the kitchen and making her great Pozole and Menudo. They are only available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, however.
Cesar is a wonderful host and in chatting with him discovered that previous positions included the restaurants Farallon, Masa’s and the Carnelian Room.
It was also interesting to see the surrounding area on 24th street being upgraded with new shops and restaurants.
What a pleasure to see this venerable location being reincarnated into an authentic Cal/Mex restaurant serving mostly organic, clean tasting food.
