i suppose i have a tall order, but i'm looking for a place for my boyfriend and i to celebrate my 21st birthday (near the end of august). an exciting occasion indeed!

both of us are serious hounds, and our tastes are more chinatown than north end, and sushi over french any day. some of our favorite places are chacarerro's, bluefin at porter exchange, that bakery right by the chinatown gate with amazing red bean buns whose name eludes me right now, and cambridge 1. we have very adventurous tastes; bring on the complex spices, blissful textures, and inventive combinations! but then again, we dont want to risk any unforeseen indigestion for this particular evening. :)

since it's a special night, i was considering the chef tasting menu at no. 9 park, or a tapas night at dali (two luxurious places which i have not tried), but on the other hand, we could be just as happy with bowls of good pho and ice-cream at toscinini's. i'm trying to balance the 'it's an occasion so you should splurge' side with the 'you can have a fabulous night very affordably' side. we're full-time students, so that's something to consider.

because i'm turning 21, i think i may have one drink or two, but definitely not anything excessive, and my boyfriend doesn't drink, so a place with celebratory-worthy libations (but without making drinking a major part of the experience) would be ideal.

we dont have cars, so anything that's basically accessible via public transportation (plus reasonable walking distances [in heels]) would be great, although if there's something truly special out there (and please share!), taking a cab would be fine.

any recommendations would be truly wonderful. thanks so much!
