Rockenwagner Bakery: First Impressions...

I should note from the start that I never got a chance to Visit Rockenwagner's Restaurant. It was ALWAYS on the list, but as always, other cravings always came before... and then... it closed...

Further, I've always seen their stand at the Culver City Farmer's Market, but the Market is also on 'Breakfast' day here at work, where said breakfast is usually bagels, donuts and if we are LUCKY, yogurt... so splurging on a yummy looking baked good at Lunch just wasn't in the cards...

So I was overjoyed when we first spotted that the Rockenwagner was opening a bakery right next door to our cleaners! And yesterday I came home to a little selection of their treats...

Knowing what a Chile Head I am, SO got me a cheese and jalapeno roll. This was good, but also pretty much like the Cheese and jalapeno rolls sold at Albertsons....

Next was the Cheese and Bacon Scone... I was drooling over the mention of Cheese and Bacon stick yesterday... so I was over joyed at finding this waiting for me... and DAMN... this is SOOOO good... The texture is just perfect, dense, but soft, not heavy but substantial enough to drink with tea... The cheese is absolutely BAKED Through... the Bacon just ads a bit of porky and smokey flavor which works so well... This is exactly the kinda baked goods I hoped and was afraid they would have... because as I noted... they are just TOO close!!!

Finally, their famous Prezel Rolls. I'm a big fan of Prezels, so this was a no brainer... The outside layer is tough, sprinked lightly with chunks of yummy salt. The inside though is just so SOFT and pillowy... I could SO see this being perfect to make a hamburger or sandwich with (Which is what I'll do with it in the future! :))... I originally bought some Brie to have with it... but instead just ended up munching on it, all on its own... Yummmmm...

And so... I think we have a hit... and at least for me, more incentive to hit the lap pool more often!!!
