Roadside Dining in the Midwest

Hi, I could use some help for an article I'm writing. Can anyone suggest really great roadside dining, anywhere in the Midwest? Here are the constraints:
1. must be right off a serious highway (say under 1/4 mile from the exit)
2. must be ready-to-eat food service (ice cream stands and diners are ok, butcher shops and produce stands are not)
3. must be great (and, preferably, summery).
