Road food on the way to Oregon

Just back from the annual pilgrimage to in-laws in Portland, OR. We had some good luck in the dining department that I thought I'd share.

Black Bear Diner (several locations, we went to Willows and Redding) They have their credo's listed on the menu and #1 is that real food takes longer. Not much longer, though. Meals were good, if not great, and fresh. Definitely the place to go if you are craving solid meals (French Dip, chili, and an old-fashioned milkshake.)

Better, though, was a little breakfast & lunch place in Ashland, OR called Hummingbird & Raven. Open about 8 months, everything on the menu is named after some variety of bird. The owner is the cook, and he puts out superior diner food that expands to include curry and salmon dishes. We ate there on the way up and on the way back. It's on the edge of a shopping mall just off the highway.
