i finally stepped food into the new Nobu that replaced L'Oragerie this week. It was good, as always. I frequent the Malibu Nobu alot and always love the passion fruit sake and rock shrimp in Yuzu sauce. I went out on a limb and tried something new with the brick oven baked cauliflower; it was outstanding. I have to say, however, that I spent the whole night looking around the room and seeing Gerard Ferry walking around watching his wait staff with a keen eye and wondering how he feels about the new uber modern black and purple restaurant in his legendary space. I loved that magical bar.

As I sat at dinner nibbling on the beloved yellowtail and jalapeno, I told my date a story about the first time I'd been to L'Orangerie and the incredible elegance of the place. It wasn't as stuffy as I'd thought it might be and was stunned when the maitre'd said, "come back sometime for a glass of bubbly before a movie - just hang out with us!" Very cool indeed.

The new Nobu's center courtyard room is quite amazing, I must say. The twilight comes through the skylights onto dark grey walls with crimson, flocked cherry blossoms that crawl skyward.

Not sure if I"ll return, but just had to say how sad I am to see that wonderful old part of LA gone.
