help me ring in a "big" birthday

wow i'm a dog | Jan 19, 2005 08:40 PM

we'll be visiting your lovely town for a "significant" birthday celebration (e.g. one that ends in a zero) and i'm looking for your suggestions. looking for something non-touristy and maybe even off the beaten path. we'll be dining on a tuesday night. maybe italian or cajun, something we couldn't get at home. obviously, i'd like the place to be special, but to me good food doesn't have to be expensive. we are fairly casual angelenos and really aren't that into dressing up, though we will if the food is worth it and the atmosphere calls for it. we prefer restaurants with eclectic food and personality. extensive wine list would be appreciated. we will be with two of our good friends and look forward to a nice evening of catching-up, so a quiet place would be a plus. on our previous trip to your town, we went to nola, which was great, but it was incredibly packed and noisy which made our meal too rushed and feverish. as far as location, i'm open. we'll have transportation.

thanks in advance for your help!
