A while back Jim Schuyler had reported on this place in des plaines.
I met a friend there who was by O'hare last night there for dinner and really enjoyed it.
My buddy and I split a bunch of stuff including the plaintains that Jim mentioned, a pupusa queso y chicharron, a tamal elote y crema, a bistec encoballado, and tacos al pastor and con chorizo, I also brought back a couple pupusas for the homebound vegetarian to try (de loroco, de queso)
I am not that much of a pupusa guy but these were prettygood to my taste, the ones that came home which were intially planned to be "just tasted" were instantly gobbled up with much gusto by my wife - I never had a chance to taste them.
the tamal was plain and sweet, not dessert sweet, but corn sweet with a nice soft texture
My buddy really enjoyed his chorizo and al pastor, (coming from nyc he doesn't get these as often as he would like)
the plantains were also good, but what I really really liked, which came as a little side to a couple of the dishes, were the refried black beans. Man, these were some of the best beans i have had. little bits of burned in a good way crunchy bits, porky flavor, and a little bit of that scraped from the bottom of the pan taste that i really really dug. these with a bit of rice than came with the bistec and the grilled caramelized onions from the steak would have done me well, with maybe a tamal on the side.
BTW, the salsa that came with and the the cabbage slaw were also pretty good
