I'm from Richmond but am now living in New York. Every time I go back it amazes me what good food is to be found there. Had 3 memorable meals while in Richmond:
Lunch at Chez Foushee: beautiful space w/high ceilings. Nice tuna salad special and delicious lemon butter cake.
Dinner at Amici: one of my favorites that never disappoints and seems to get better w/age. My table sampled the scallops, panko crusted grouper, and crab cakes. The scallops are one of the best renditions I have had the fortune of trying--the way the scallops are carmelized adds an extra layer to the dish. Grouper and crab cake were also excellent. Finished the meal w/a chocolate terrine (I think), that was wonderfully cut by the addition of orange, and the bread pudding-type dessert, which was accompanied by some plump and delicious golden raisins.
Finally, lunch at Millie's: you can't beat the combination of relaxed atmosphere and absolutely delicious food at Millie's, but be prepared for added spice in each dish (the members of my family have low tolerance for spices, unfortunately). And those home baked desserts--wow!
Can't wait for my next visit home!
